Pretoria has always been seen as cosmopolitan lagging, especially with the likes of Cape Town and Johannesburg, even though over the years it’s have proven otherwise – with great hiking spots, memorable stay-cation worthy destinations and an array of sizzling eating locations. It comes as no surprise when another of these unforgettable restaurants opens – that’s the Grillroom and Sushi bar . A haven for good food, sophisticated drinks – make it point to visit their exceptional wine cellar. The Grillroom offers an expert sommelier who will suggest pairings and recommendations to accompany your decadent meal; this stylish venue is worthy, serving up a symphony of enjoyment both in nourishment and beverages.
Lishe was honored to be invited to experience this new location that’s found a home in Brooklyn Bridge , Pretoria – lead by impeccably versed Chef Jamie Sutherland, hailing from the Highlands of Scotland and finally finding his heart in Mzansi (Catch his audio interview with Lishe at the end of the article ).
We were treated to the splendor of the Grillroom, starting with delicious salty crusted focacia served with olive oil and balsamic, then a light Quinoa salad consisting of radish, asparagus and avocado. Followed by a presentation of delicacies from their sushi bar – a platter for one of california rolls, maki and rainbow roll with monkfish cavia.
Proceeded by a mouth-watering pulled pork on flatbread with butternut and crispy butternut and then salt and pepper calamari. Next was a main serving of a memorable rib eye with a red wine jus. I must add the Grillroom makes most of it’s serving in-house, from sauces, to breads and desserts , all their meat is farm fresh, ageing done on site and have African origins ; the Grillroom is a haven for meat eaters.
Finally my dining experience concluded with the French mille feuille with a
a South African twist, with a twill biscuit, meringue, fruit and served with a thyme ice cream.
The Grillroom and Sushi Bar offers a sophisticated dining experience,whether you grab lunch or dinner , you are guaranteed a memorable foodie adventure , I know I’ll be back.
