I discovered Afro-boer during the loadshedding period at the beginning of 2020 , so this title is quite fitting – being a new mom with a baby a few weeks old their staff was accommodating – charging my phone and even filling my flask with hot water just in case I needed to make formula for my newborn to get some breastfeeding relief. Then Corona hit and the National Disaster was implemented followed by a strict lockdown; in the mist of figuring out this scary time, I would imagine especially for parents – Afro-boer brought about a relief with shelves filled with gourmet goodies with a happiness overflowing Spaza Shoppe, later of course this developed from not just a shop of goodies to you being able to get your fix and then find a seat at their beautiful social distancing a.k.a. “lifesaver” garden. I feel like it is at this spot stress was relieved, excuse me for being dramatic ; but lives were saved. But the nominated hottest spot in Pretoria – Afroboer is more than just a Spaza shoppe – before Corona and still the brainchild of owner Michelle Cronje Cibulka is a restaurant serving artistry on a plate. Gourmet meals, amazing baked commodities and all served with premium South African hospitality.

Afroboer , the food, the Spaza Shoppe..the beauty.

Lishe had an opportunity to talk to owner Michelle Cronje-Cibulka about the restaurant, Spaza Shoppe and more – see link below:
